Florida’s campaign finance laws are already loose, with lots of loopholes and workarounds. Now, just weeks before Election Day, they’ll get more relaxed.
The U.S. Supreme Court struck down a federal law in June that limited how much money political parties could spend on candidates. It applied only to people running for federal office.
Following the decision, Politico reporter Gary Fineout said the Republican Party of Florida, along with other campaign committees, filed a lawsuit in a Pensacola federal court asking for the SCOTUS ruling to apply to state laws as well. The judge agreed last week.
