South Florida’s Haitians are in a state of painful if not terrifying suspense.
About 150,000 of them have just seen their Temporary Protected Status, or TPS, cancelled — meaning federal immigration agents can now arrest and deport them en masse, at will.
At stake may be the very future of a community that’s part of the social and economic bedrock here — and the forced return of people to the nightmare of violent gang rule in Haiti.
