I congratulate Legacy Magazine’s Most Powerful & Influential Business Leaders of 2026. Your commitment to excellence, success and achievement is on full display for everyone to see. However, this is the first time there has been no mention of the word “Black” in the description.
For 22 years, my media company has recognized the success and achievements of the Black community. Due to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ law affecting diversity, equity and inclusion policies, I can no longer use “Black” to describe my company and its initiatives.
I have never solicited business from any entity simply because I am Black. I know that being Black has had nothing to do with my success. My success is the result of hard work, smart decision-making and strong business practices.
I would be remiss if I did not recognize the recent passing of Coral Springs Commissioner Nancy Metayer and Levi Henry Jr., the founder of the Westside Gazette newspaper. Their leadership, service and commitment to community has left a lasting legacy that will not be forgotten.
The Legacy Most Powerful & Influential Business Leaders award represents more than professional success; it is a reflection of impact, leadership and the ability to create meaningful change in the community. Honorees are individuals who have demonstrated not only excellence in their respective industries but also a sustained commitment to mentorship, economic empowerment and civic engagement. These leaders are often the driving force behind job creation, innovation and the advancement of opportunities for others.
The recognition also serves as a historical record, documenting those who have shaped the economic and social landscape of South Florida. It highlights individuals whose influence extends beyond boardrooms into neighborhoods, schools and institutions where their leadership helps to inspire the next generation. The award underscores the importance of visibility — ensuring that stories of achievement, resilience and leadership are told, preserved and celebrated.
Ultimately, this honor reflects a standard of excellence that goes beyond titles or financial success. It represents integrity, vision and a responsibility to uplift others while building a lasting legacy of impact and progress.
