Ruban & Kimberly Gray Roberts
Everyone knows to step to the left once Ruban Roberts hits the dance floor.
The fellas can;t compete, and the ladies all sway and swoon. Yet, there is one woman who, at first, wanted nothing to do with his signature moves.
Kimberly Gray Rpberts, lead strategist at Absolute Value, remembers it just like it was yesterday.“He was really tall, [with] broad shoulders and he’s got this old man two-step..”
Kimberly decided to give him a chance and opted to look beyond his geriatric shuffle. After meeting on the dancefloor, she flew back to New York, thus beginning a whirlwind, multi-city, long distance romance. “This man called me to make sure that I got to the airport okay. He called me when I landed. He talked to me as I was driving because I had to be at work. He checked in again on me at the end of the day to make sure that I was all right.”
And the conversations, she said, were amazing.
They discussed the finer points of literature, traveled through the annals of history, and even discovered a shared eclectic taste for music.
Still, Kimberly took it all in stride.“Marriage wasn’t on my bingo card.,” she remarked, while also making sure she viewed her relationship realistically “What kind of weirdo do I look like trying to police a guy who’s 800 miles away?” she mused.
For Ruban, her attitude was a breath of fresh air. “She wasn’t possessive like how I was used to,” said the CEO of RER Consulting. “There was no pressure and that definitely did it for me.”
It was at this point that Ruban put his foot down and decided enough is enough. He could not bear to live one more day without her.
In all, they have been together for 21 years and married for 15, and no matter how much Kimberly denies it, it’s obvious that Ruban two-stepped his way straight into her heart.
