Converse has issued an apology after releasing an ad campaign that social media users accused of featuring racist imagery invoking the Ku Klux Klan.
The popular Nike-owned sneaker brand Converse is at the center of an online controversy, with social media users vowing never to buy the brand again following a recent advertisement accused of invoking racist imagery associated with lynching and the Ku Klux Klan.
Over the weekend, the brand went viral for all the wrong reasons when its Converse Malaysia Instagram page posted a new campaign featuring K-pop singer Karina of the girl group Aespa, according to Women’s Wear Daily. The image showed Karina wearing a plain white skirt and holding a pair of Chuck 70s while standing beneath a star-shaped spotlight.
