Jennifer Newsome is redefining what it means to lead with purpose. As the founder and CEO of the National Association of Black Compliance and Risk Management Professionals (NABCRMP), she has established a global network of over 500 members dedicated to advancing Black leadership in governance, risk, and compliance.

Through StartSmart Counsel, Professional Limited Liability Company (PLLC), her boutique law firm provides legal strategies for startups and small businesses—helping them not only scale but also grow with integrity.

Newsome’s recent appointment to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)’s Small Business Capital Formation Advisory Committee reflects her recognized influence in promoting fair, equitable access to capital for diverse entrepreneurs.

A passionate educator and thought leader, she also teaches in Fordham University’s Corporate Compliance and Ethics Program, where she emboldens future leaders with practical tools and policies to advance ethical practices in organizations.

“Sometimes you have to walk away from the climb to find the path meant to lift you higher,” says Newsome. For her, this has meant empowering others, serving communities, and creating opportunities that have a withstanding impact.
