District 1 financial literacy symposium equips students to make informed decisions

Special To Legacy

As we commemorate the 100th District 1 proudly announced the continuation of its impactful Financial Literacy Senior Symposium, now entering its third year under the leadership of School Board Member Dr. Steve Gallon III, with its first stops at Miami Norland and Miami Carol City Senior High Schools. This signature initiative remains dedicated to equipping graduating seniors across District 1 high schools with the knowledge and tools necessary to make informed financial decisions as they transition into adulthood.

The symposium serves as a focused and engaging conversation centered on financial literacy—covering essential topics such as budgeting, credit management, saving, investing, and building long-term wealth. By connecting students with experienced professionals and community leaders, the initiative aims to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world financial responsibility.

“Exposure and experience are difference makers in the development and pursuit of generational wealth,” said Dr. Gallon. “This symposium is about ensuring our students are not only prepared academically, but financially empowered to navigate their futures with confidence.”

Continuing its momentum, the District 1 Financial Literacy Senior Symposium reflects a sustained commitment to student success beyond graduation. The initiative underscores the importance of early financial education as a foundation for economic stability and opportunity. The symposium will continue at North Miami Senior High School and North Miami Beach Senior High School in the coming weeks, expanding its reach to even more graduating seniors across District 1.

District 1 extends special recognition to Danny Felton and Claudienne Hibbert-Smith for their continued partnership and dedication to advancing this important work. Their collaboration has been instrumental in expanding the reach and impact of the symposium over the past three years.

As the program grows, District 1 remains steadfast in its mission to provide meaningful exposure and actionable knowledge to the next generation.
