State Senator Shevrin Jones

“This year my senate seat is on the ballot and after a lot of prayer, reflection and honest conversation with the people closest to me, I have decided that I will not seek re-election to the Florida Senate,” said Jones on X.

Sources revealed to M•I•A  Media Group that Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson will not be running for re-election in August of 2026.
Apparent front runners for her seat include Jones and Miami-Dade Commissioner Oliver Gilbert.

In a statement to M•I•A  Media Group, Jones said that he is considering the best course of action to administer to the needs of his constituents.
“I haven’t spoken with the Congresswoman about her plans/timeline. At the end of the day, our communities deserve bold leadership with the energy and urgency to tackle problems — especially in this moment as our rights and representation are under attack here in Florida and across the country,” said Jones.

“I’m humbled by the encouragement and will continue to serve in whatever capacity I can to do the most good for our people.”
