This Is What Black Families Really Think About Mental Health Care

If you have seen firsthand how mental health challenges like anxietydepression, or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) can impact one’s livelihood, whether in your own life, your child’s, or through a family member, you understand how essential it is to normalize conversations about mental health. While these discussions have become more common in recent years, there’s still significant work to be done, particularly within the Black American community and especially when it comes to Black children. A recent study conducted by The Child Mind Institute and the Steve Fund shows just how urgent this work remains.

What Is The Mental Health Support for Black Families Study?

The Mental Health Support for Black Families study is a unique study that was designed to capture the real-life experiences of Black families navigating mental health care. Conducted between July 30 and August 22, 2024, the study included both a comprehensive literature review and a nationally representative survey.
