Melky Jean, the Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter and younger sister of multi-talented hip-hop icon Wyclef Jean, steps up to her in-home bar, pulls some of the most popular Caribbean and Latin American rum brands from the shelf, displays them on the counter and begins pouring. “Ready for the next one?” she asks before taking out a final bottle, shaped like a sailing ship.
