This collection celebrates the accomplishments of women in music, highlighting the roles of both musical artist and tour manager. It focuses on careers where women, especially women of color, are underrepresented. This special release also marks the one-year anniversary of the Barbie movie, which won three Grammys and received 11 nominations for its soundtrack, according to Billboard.
This release features the Grammy-winning artist and her longtime producer Ann Mincieli, both dressed in “She is the Music” T-shirts, aiming to inspire young girls to pursue careers in music, whether on stage or behind the scenes. Mincieli, a four-time Grammy winner, is renowned for her work engineering Keys’ hit albums like The Diary of Alicia Keys and Girl on Fire.
Mattel’s release also highlights the gender disparity in the music industry, where only 22% of charting artists and 31% of tour managers are women.
Available as part of Barbie’s ongoing Women in Music series, the dolls are a celebration of women’s contributions to the industry. All proceeds from the auction go to She Is The Music, an initiative advocating for more women in the music world.
