The Hope Florida scandal has been a lot like an onion — if onions were capable of swindling $10 million from taxpayers.

With every layer peeled, the stench has intensified. In just the last two weeks, a former Supreme Court justice entered the fray … to defend the state’s attorney general … against accusations of criminal behavior … by GOP legislators … who also pointed fingers at the governor … and his wife.

If you don’t appreciate how bonkers that last sentence is, you’ve been living in Florida too long.

You might expect someone to open an investigation, except who the heck do you call when the state’s top law enforcement official is involved?

The GOP lawmaker leading the legislative probe, Rep. Alex Andrade, suggested the feds should step in. He’s probably right. Because you can’t throw a Vidalia around the state Capitol without hitting a state-level official involved.
