They met each other at a conference in California.
“She was the bomb dot com,” recalls Andy Henriquez, a business storytelling coach and keynote speaker. “We just connected.”
He and Casandra, a love coach for professional women, exchanged numbers and for a while they would only see each other once a year at that conference.
He was definitely interested, but he believes that it’s a good thing that everything came together at a much later time and place.
“I always say that had I attempted to date her anytime during those 10 years, there’s a 100% chance I would have messed that up, because back then I was still in my Playboy mode,” he shared.
He believes that God sent her to be his wife but he definitely needed to get his house in order. “There are times when women think they are going to change a dude but sometimes you have to work through things yourself,” he says. “I went through this season where I accepted Christ. I stopped the nightlife. I also became celibate for probably about a year”.
They both ended up at a barbeque where they reconnected. Turns out she was celibate as well and at this point, the time was right. They challenged each other in a Wii video game dance off where Andy claims he won (despite any available contradicting evidence.)
“She might have won the video game,” he concedes, “but I won in real life because anybody who sees the video knows who has the real dance moves.“
They kept in touch and then eventually ended up going out to eat. Their meal turned into a marathon date. And when he heard that she needed oil in her car he immediately offered to buy some “Acts of service! My heart went pitter patter,” Casandra remarks.
They went to Walmart and were inspired to engage in an impromptu hula hoop competition.
“I won!” Andy interjects.
He played on that theme when he proposed to her with a dance routine and flash mob. They then made their way to Mexico to exchange their wedding vows.
That was ten years ago.
Yet, she continues to make him smile and he continues to make her laugh. They remain committed in their quest for a fun and a loving connection..
