Growing up, Pierre Monice’s Haitian parents instilled in him the importance of serving others and enriching the community. As a former high school basketball coach who worked with students for 13 years, and as a pastor, Monice gained valuable leadership experience that laid the foundation for his current career.
Now, as president and CEO of Holy Cross Health, Monice is guiding the organization with community-centered leadership.
“We’re trying to make sure that we are not just here taking care of people when they’re sick,” Monice said, “but are also providing them opportunities to get better and to thrive in their community.”
For his contributions as a community healthcare leader, Monice has been named one of Legacy South Florida’s Top Black Healthcare Professionals of 2025.
As a self-proclaimed product of mentorship, Monice pays it forward by supporting others in a similar way.
“I’m always very involved in our local chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives as a mentor, and I’ve also been active with the National Association of Health Services Executives, helping to represent my community from a leadership perspective,” he said.
Monice holds a Master of Business Administration from Webster University and a Bachelor of Arts in Theology from Southern Adventist University. He is also board-certified in healthcare management as a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, who awarded him the 2025 Robert S. Hudgens Memorial Award for Young Healthcare Executive of the Year.
In 2024, under his leadership, Holy Cross Health opened a family health care center that provides pediatric and adult care, as well as tutoring, cooking classes, and diabetes prevention programs.
Monice considers it a privilege to lead the Holy Cross Health team, which has a legacy of more than 70 years of providing high-quality healthcare in South Florida.
“We’re working every year, and we do our Community Health Needs Assessment,” he said.
According to Monice, having an active board made up of a diverse group of individuals — and more than 2,500 colleagues at Holy Cross Health from various cultural backgrounds — helps the organization stay connected to Broward County and beyond, ensuring they meet the daily needs of the community.
Holy Cross Health recently relaunched the Jon and Helaine Ayers Rehabilitation Center, providing Broward County residents access to innovative rehab services close to home.
“We’re helping people recover from accidents and various procedures—especially from orthopedic and neurological standpoints—helping people walk again,” Monice said.
The project was made possible through the philanthropic support of board member John Ayers.
“We’ve brought in the best rehabilitation equipment from across the country to help people with vertigo, helping them regain their balance and sense of normalcy.”
