At Demesmin and Dover, Black History Month is not just a time for reflection, it is a reaffirmation of our ongoing responsibility to uplift, support, and invest in the communities that raised us. As a Black-owned law firm, that responsibility is deeply personal. Our work as attorneys is rooted in justice, but our mission extends far beyond the courtroom. It lives in our neighborhoods, our schools, and every event where we can show up, stand with, and serve our people.
Over the years, we have had the privilege of partnering with organizations and cities across South Florida to host and support events that pour back into the Black community. These are not just sponsorships. They are opportunities to be hands-on, present, and accountable to the culture and causes that matter most.
Every January, we proudly participate in MLK Day events honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This year, on January 19th, we partnered with the City of Fort Lauderdale for the King Holiday Celebration and Parade, which began along historic Sistrunk Boulevard and concluded with a Unity Festival at Carter Park. To close out the day, we teamed up with our partner Stichiz from 103.5 The Beat to present a $1,000 check giveaway to a lucky attendee, creating a moment rooted in celebration, service, and community connection.
Our cultural roots also run deep through events like Haitian Karnaval, where we celebrate heritage, identity, and resilience alongside our Haitian brothers and sisters. This celebration holds special meaning to our firm, as co-founder Victor Demesmin is Haitian. These moments are more than festivals. They are affirmations of pride, unity, and presence.
In June, we are honored to support Juneteenth celebrations that commemorate liberation while creating spaces for economic, cultural, and social empowerment. We have proudly partnered with the City of Miami Gardens on several Juneteenth events, supporting initiatives that uplift the community and honor this important history.
Each summer, we team up with South Promo and other local partners to host Back-to-School Drives, providing students with the supplies they need to start the academic year strong. During the holidays, our team participates in multiple turkey and toy drives across Broward, Miami-Dade, and Palm Beach counties to help ensure families have food on the table and children experience joy.
What sets us apart is not just what we do. It is why we do it. Our We Care More philosophy is not a slogan. It is a commitment to showing up consistently, serving authentically, and never forgetting where we come from.
Black history is still being written. At Demesmin and Dover, we are proud to be part of that story not only as legal advocates, but as neighbors, partners, and champions for our community.
As part of our ongoing celebration, we are excited to continue our annual Black History Month Free Apparel Giveaway. Each year, we design custom pieces honoring Black history and culture and give them away to the community at no cost.
