Hollywood, Fla. (March 3, 2023) – M•I•A Media Group is pleased to release M•I•A Magazine, the official publication of the Jazz in the Gardens Music Festival 2023. The magic is returning to Hard Rock Stadium. M•I•A Magazine has exclusive interviews, details, and coverage for one of the region’s most highly anticipated cultural celebrations. This high-energy, content-rich publication will be available in the Miami Herald and Sun-Sentinel on Friday, March 3.
“Jazz in the Gardens now enters its 16th year at Hard Rock Stadium, boasting an eclectic lineup that continues the tradition of celebrating Black music and culture. As in years past, this year’s two-day festival will include some of the biggest names in R&B, neo-soul, reggae, and gospel music,” said Russell Motley, Legacy’s Associate Publisher, and Editor-in-Chief.
M•I•A Magazine’s JITG edition gives readers exclusive features with performers like Ari Lennox, El Debarge, Jill Scott, Jodeci, Keyshia Cole, Kierra Sheard-Kelly, and three-time JITG performer Charlie Wilson. Local acts like A. Randolph, Deep Fried Fund Band, and Valerie Taylor will also showcase their talent on the JITG stage.
“I promised God that if he got me off the streets and gave me back what I love — making music and singing — that I’d promise to shout him out every single night,” said crooner Charlie Wilson shared. “And I do because I’m the guy who went down in flames … but was allowed to rise from the ashes. I’ve always been on big stages. I play for everybody and anybody.”
The publication also noted the 20th anniversary of residents successfully incorporating the City of Miami Gardens, the producer and host city of JITG.
“When we started this city, we as black folks knew we had to have the very best of what we can do and give each other,” said Shirley Gibson, the city’s founding mayor and creator of Jazz in the Gardens. “We had a saying if we don’t do it first-class, Miami Gardens don’t do it at all, and that’s how we started it, and we challenged ourselves to make it better. I will not bring anything to my people if I feel like I cannot bring them the best of the best.”
The music festival started as a vision and has grown into a distinct cultural destination attracting the best entertainment talent and more than 60,000 attendees.
“What started in a dirt parking lot has grown into one of the largest music festivals that take place in the United States,” said Rodney Harris, the current mayor of the City of MiamiGardens. “We’re excited people from all over the world are coming here. Chicago, Michigan, Jamaica, and the Bahamas. They get to witness our hospitality, and it’s a great opportunity for those to see how we live, work, play, and worship in our city.”
JITG sponsor and former Miami Gardens mayor Oliver G. Gilbert, III, shared reflections about the festival’s growth and opportunities.
“Jazz in the Gardens is how we say hello to the world,” said Gilbert, current chairman of the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners. “I use Jazz in the Gardens as a vehicle to introduce the city to people who might not know about Miami Gardens. We promote the concert, but ultimately, we are promoting the city, the people, the opportunity– and so it’s the way that we welcome people into our homes.”
The issue includes additional interviews, a restaurant guide, and society content that serves South Florida’s Black affluencers and influencers.
